May 29th, 2007 marked a black day in the blogosphere. The House of Goonery opened its doors for the first time on the now defunct Pagan Nation. I miss Pagan Nation, but I guess all things change and leaving behind The Nation was one that needed to be done.
Oh, there were reasons. Many reasons. I won’t go into them here, since this is not the forum for such, but I’ll just say that I will be forever in debt to A.J. Drew for creating Pagan Nation and doing a huge amount of work to integrate WordPress blogs into his service. Thanks, AJ!
Eventually, when I left PN, I came to WordPress itself. I chose WordPress itself, since I knew there would be almost zero problems integrating my existent WP blog into the service. Except for a very few minor hiccups, now long corrected, everything is running smoothly here at The House of Goonery.
It’s been a wonderful ride, these past five years and I hope that everyone who’s stopped by has gotten something out of it, even if it is a cheap laugh at my expense.
Let me share a secret with you about this post: I am writing it from the past. As I write this, it is February 13th, 2011. The reason I am writing now (then, for when you are reading it) is because I didn’t want to forget my five-year anniversary in the blogosphere. So, best wishes from February. I hope nothing bad as happened between now and then, either on a personal or national/world level.
In closing, let me say that I am very pleased at the response to the House of Goonery. As I write this, I have just over 700 comments. Not too bad for a non-circulated blog penned by a nobody. At 140 comments per year, that’s not terrible. Other blogs, of course, get more comments per post than I do all year. This is not surprising, though, since they have probably been around a lot longer.
Who knows? By the time you actually read this, I could be getting way more hits and way more comments.
I just hope that I’ve kept up with the Blog a Day Challenge. It would be a real shame to have this post be a lone entry in a month of empty days.
Thanks, everyone. Here’s to five more great years.

Congrats on your five year anniversary Goon. I dunno how long I’ve been around, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. You’re a great guy and a good friend. ❤
