First off, a confession. Had I remembered that yesterday was Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I would’ve flipped the last two posts. My apologies if anyone was offended by my oversight.
One of my favorite quotes by Doctor King is this:
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
Today, we are still living with the injustice of racism, of homophobia, of transphobia. We should do everything in our power to see that these things, these hates, are removed from our society. There is no need to hate. Hate leads to violence and violence leads to civil unrest, which is bad for everyone.
Perhaps, one day, this country will truly “rise up and live out the meaning of its creed: that all men are created equal.” Until that happens, none of us will ever truly be free.
