Movie Review: Jersey Girl

Jersey Girl
Starring: Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler, Jason Biggs, George Carlin, Stephen Root, Mike Starr, Raquel Castro, and Jennifer Lopez. Cameo by Will Smith.
Director: Kevin Smith
MPAA Rating: PG-13 (Language and Sexual content, including frank dialogue.)
Plot: Ollie (Ben Affleck) is a successful big-city publicist who has the life he’s always wanted. He meets, falls in love with, and marries the girl of his dreams (Lopez). Tragedy strikes, however, when his wife dies in childbirth. Left on his own, he struggles to raise his daughter (Castro) with the help of his father (Carlin) and his two buddies from the road crew.
Notes: Jersey Girl got panned when it came out for some reason. I thought it was a very good movie. And while I love the View Askew Productions, like Clerks, and Dogma, Jersey Girl was a nice breath of fresh air. This is a very poignant film about loss and finding the will to continue. Ben Affleck once again turns in a wonderful performance. The nice cameo by Will Smith doesn’t hurt either.
My Rating: See it. Five Goons out of Five.
