Mallrats
Starring: Shannen Doherty, Jeremy London, Jason Lee, Claire Forlani, Priscilla Barnes, Michael Rooker, Jason Mewes, and Ben Affleck. Cameo by Stan “The Man” Lee.
Director: Kevin Smith.
MPAA Rating : R (Strong language, including sexual dialogue, and some scenes of sexuality and drug content.)
Plot: What to say about the plot of Mallrats? It’s the story of two guys who get dumped by their girlfriends. To console themselves, they go to the mall and hilarity ensues.
Notes: This was Kevin Smith’s second film. It’s filled with the usual pop culture references that Kevin Smith’s films are famous for. Of all the films that are set in the “View Askew Universe,” for lack of a better term, Mallrats is the weakest as far as character development is concerned. However, it does have its strong points in the witty writing and ironic humor of life in a mall, in that I’ve-seen-a-kid-get-hurt-on-the-escalator-kind-of-way. We’ve all seen that.
My Rating: There are better View Askew movies, but the ironic humor makes this one worth seeing. Three Goons out of Five.
