I am a writer and there are times when I curse the written word.
It’s is hard, sometimes, to know the intent of someone’s words when such text is written. With no way to read the person’s inflection without lengthy explinations, it can be frustrating to read a post from someone you thought, at least, respected you.
Let me give you an example:
There is a person here on Pagan Nation (http:www.pagannation.com, for those coming from outside the site) who insists on attacking everything I say. I won’t mention her name here because I may simply be reading too much into her posts.
Maybe she’s picking at me. Maybe she’s not.
If she’s not, no harm done. Blame it on the ambiguity of the written, inflectionless, word and move on.
If she is, however, then that’s Different. That constitutes a personal attack. And personal attacks get answered in kind.
I’ve tried to be understanding to those with strong opinions. I’ve got strong opinions, as well. This is the least I can do for her, since I expect the same treatment in return. That’s only fair, right? After all, this is what reasonably intelligent adults do, right?
